Timeline for Discontinuation of Online Functionality

Postby Sheriff Woody » Fri Jul 29, 2016 1:17 pm

Since announcing the discontinuation of production on Disney Infinity, the team has been exploring timelines for the closure of the game’s online versions and community features. The goal has been to offer extended access to these services, while also providing clear communication about what players can expect. It’s important to note that:

The console versions of Disney Infinity will continue to operate as usual with full access to figures and play sets only with the exception of community content features and online multiplayer
Until September 30, 2016, Community Content will still be available and players will be able to upload and download any of their favorite Toy Box creations
As of today (July 29, 2016):

No in-game purchases can be made within the PC, Steam version of Disney Infinity 2.0, iOS, Google Android, Amazon Android and Apple TV versions of the game as this feature has now been removed
Players can continue to make in-game purchases within the Steam version of Disney Infinity 3.0.
As of September 30, 2016:

Players will no longer be able to log in to play the PC, iOS, Google Android and Amazon Android versions of Disney Infinity. These will no longer be available on the respective app stores
The Steam versions of Disney Infinity 2.0 & 3.0 will remain operational with the exception of all online services and community features as these will be discontinued
Apple TV versions of Disney Infinity will be removed from the App Store
The Disney Infinity Community team will no longer be reviewing or approving any new Toy Boxes that are submitted to Disney for all console, mobile and PC versions of the game. However, when playing on any console, Apple TV or Windows 8/10 versions of the game, players can continue to download their favorite Toy Boxes from the Community Content section until March 3, 2017
As of January 3, 2017

No in-game purchases can be made within the Windows 8/10 versions of the game as this feature will be removed
As of March 3, 2017

Apple TV and Windows 8/10 versions will no longer be available, supported or playable
All Disney Infinity online services and community features for all versions will be discontinued
To learn more about which services of Disney Infinity are being removed or information related to each game version, visit the Closing FAQs located here for additional information.

The Disney Infinity website will continue to be updated frequently prior to March 3, 2017 to provide the Disney Infinity community with news and status of the game across all platforms should the status change.

"while also providing clear communication about what players can expect" - That's funny (not that I blame the Infinity Team for that, as they have obviously had bigger issues to deal with themselves).

But this announcement still leaves some key issues unanswered. It seems to suggest that we can still upload toyboxes to the community until the end of September, which is clearly not true. It makes no mention of saving toyboxes to the Disney cloud. Could they mean that uploading to the Disney cloud is the service that will end September 30th? Also, no mention of friend sharing, will that still be possible after September?

I submitted these questions to Disney support, we'll see if they provide any answers.

Not that I have tried recently but are you saying you cannot upload toy boxes at them moment?

The Disney e-mail is way better than expected.

I got an e-mail talking about things still being around mainly until September. We def can still download toyboxes, but it sounded like they're also still allowing creators to upload boxes until then as well?
I don't need a featured toybox, I build for myself.

You can; at this time, upload toyboxes to the Disney Infinity servers. However those Toyboxes must be approved by the Disney Infinity team. Since Disney let go of the DI developers then no new Toyboxes have been approved, and all developer toyboxes were released simultaneously (including the Dory toybox designed for a character that was unreleased at the time. The general assumption has been that no uploaded toyboxes will ever be made available, as this is one of those communications that Disney have not been too clear on. However it would technically be correct to say that you can still upload toyboxes at this time, even though that statement literally means nothing.

^Exactly - you can upload them to your hearts content, but they will never be approved, because there is no one there to approve them.

Then why would they mention it being possible until September in the email? :/

FYI, the PC version of 1.0 WILL be playable offline after the servers shutdown in September, as long as you have synced your account before the shutdown date. PC 1.0 stores your account data locally so will automatically go into offline mode when it cannot connect to the Disney servers. Unfortunately 2.0 & 3.0 do not work this way, but if you download the steam versions of 2.0 & 3.0 now they will sync to your same account from the other versions, then the data will be stored on your steam account and you will be able to continue to play after shutdown. Hope this helps any PC players out there. Long live Glow in the Dark Buzz!
