Questions on this "patch"

So they have said that Disney Infinity Figures will be "backward and forwards compatible" so figures can be used in the toy box on Infinity 1 & 2. However, will this patch allow you to play playsets for Infinity 2 on the Infinity 1 pad? And if thats the case, does that mean that the Infinity 2 pad will just be a smidge better (i.e. you can stack 4 hexagonal pieces as opposed to 3)?

I dont know, I'm just worried that with the large amount of money I'm going to be spending on the figures, I don't wanna have to spend another 75 every year just to get a new Infinity pad.
