What's that in the launch trailer video?

R2 is more of a prop than a character. He should be a team-up disc.

Not sure about that @Mukluk. He features so strongly throughout all the films and adds such personality.

C3PO would be useless, but R2 could have some use.

Guess we will wait and see!

What could R2 use in combat? He would be sort of limited in abilities.

The Inside Out characters are weak on Ranged, and strong on Melee. Not sure whether there is way for them to do something similar with R2, perhaps? He features a bit in the promo, so perhaps there is more to come.

R2 has already been showed in the starter pack, so if he was a figure they would have announced him already.

Thinking about it @fdanielx, I'd actually prefer to have R2 and BB8 as sidekicks anyhow. Add to that Ewoks and Jawas (conspicuously absent from promos so far), and I'd be pretty happy. The suspense is killing me!

I want a BB8 Vehicle. Put a chair on top of a big BB8, and voila!
