@Infinitylad It's probably the latter.

@imgonnawreckit Yeah, I'm much excited for this version, too! Maybe I can buy a Mickey figure to compliment the Donald Duck figure on launch day (or later, whichever comes first).

@imagination but there's been a wall e challenge in 1.0 and no wall e yet. I think we can say with 100% certainty that there'll be no water figures in 3.0 (like arial, nemo etc)

One thing I've noticed that no one has yet pointed out is that on the poll we had water characters (Ariel, Ursula and Dory) however there were no four legged characters! Do you think that they've worked out how to make water mechanics and it'll be in 4.0 but they haven't worked out how to make quads work? If they'd put Simba or Bolt on the poll, it would put false hopes up for characters that they haven't even figured out how to make work yet. Do you think this could be true??? :o 8-)

I'm more curious as to if they figured out four legged characters for 3.0, maybe that's why they aren't on the list... I'm still holding out hope that Arlo is a playable/rideable character (Cars, Baymax, Groot, etc..) and not just a mount, lol.

I think they are hard at work with Water Mechanics because, yes, all of the polls recently mention Ursula, Ariel, Dory, etc.
The only reason I think that is a hint is because, like InfinityFan said, there were not any four legged characters, perhaps because they don't plan to have any yet.

I don't like the wording that they "haven't figured out" quadrapeds. They just don't work with the current mechanics. If they couldn't figure out how to make quadraped playable characters they shouldn't even be an established development studio. Lol. They aren't that stupid. They just need to make new mechanics like they did for the Cars characters and they'll need time to do that.

Well, they do love their Pixar (we have more Pixar figures than Disney Animation figures), and the movie that comes out next year is Finding Dory, I wouldn't be surprised we get a playset with Marlin and Dory and Nemo as a separate figure for 4.0. I would also expect an Arlo (The Good Dinosaur) figure in the Disney Wave 2 for 3.0, but maybe four legged characters are not being researched at this point?

@BenFleischman
Nobody is implying they're stupid, Square Enix didn't figure out how to implement four legged characters in Kingdom Hearts and that's why The Lion King was pushed to Kingdom Hearts 2 and even then it was weird, way too fast. They'd have to pretty much start from scratch cause quadrupeds move really different. Maybe it's not a technological impediment, but it would be quite some work. The same happens with the water mechanics.

Again, the KH thing isn't "Couldn't figure out" it's that it cost way too much time/money to implement it first time round. Animal versions of all the characters required totally new animations and mechanics, all of which are easy to figure out, but cost far more than just making a new level that humanoid Sora/Donald/Goofy can all use as standard.

It's the same in DI. It'd be easy to figure out a way to put non humanoid characters in the game, but they'd have to add a ton of content and new gameplay mechanics to make them work. Look at Randall as and example. He's got six legs, but he also has two arms, so even though he's clearly not a standard human shape, he can fit on all the vehicles and use all the tools without many problems. Simba doesn't have any hands so he can't use any of the tools or vehicles. He won't be able to climb rope ladders, but he'll probably be able to climb and hang off ledges (some characters like Mufasa obviously won't have the ledge hanging ability). It's just a ton of extra work to pile on top of all the other stuff they have to work on.

Yes, now you can say "But they put the Cars guys in and they can't use all the tools and vehicles!" It was far easier making the specialist Cars playable because they already had a full set of vehicle mechanics in the game. It was a relatively small amount of work to just turn a bunch of regular vehicles that already fully worked into standalone playable characters.

I have no doubt that non humanoids and swimming will come eventually, but they will likely come in later sets as those sets' selling points to justify their extra development costs.
