Hope we don't always have a sidekick following us around in toybox as that would be annoying.

I know what a 2D platformer is, but what's a 2.5D platformer? Is some of it a 2D and some a 3D platformer? But whatever it is I'm still excited for it! :)

I think a 2.5D platformer is similar to a 2D platformer, but the camera angle is different (and can rotate).

2.5D usually means the characters and world around you are entirely 3D, but your characters can only move in a straight path back and forth like a normal 2D game. The New Super Mario Bros are an example of 2.5D, or even Street Fighter 4.

I believe 2.5D can also refer to games that are primarily played on a 2D plane, but with limited 3D motion as well, such as LittleBigPlanet.

Ok, still sounds really fun! You can use them in the 3D toy box as well so I don't know why people are annoyed. There is probably another Disney play set too! I can't wait to play all the playsets personally, especially Inside Out! :)

Both of these are 2.5D platformers:

(Sometimes Mickey is full 3D.)

Usually 2.5D games use 2D images and assets to create the illusion that you are playing a game with full 3D motion controls when that isn't the case. The most important part here is the "motion".
