Lone Ranger Play Set Variant

I did a search and did not see that this had been discussed previously, so please direct me if so. Does anyone know why there is a variant for the Lone Ranger and Tonto play set? The original is a better representation of both the Lone Ranger and Tonto, but the newer variation is all 'Lone Ranger' with the badge and dual six guns. Was this marketing to sell more play sets to collectors, or was there another reason for the update? - just curious.

Ive been wanting to make a Lone ranger playset recreation ... Maybe in 3.0 they will allow us to lock it to lone ranger and tonto.
