I finally went ahead and bought a collectors base off Ebay, listing said new unused. It was not had nicks and scrapes all over not terrible condition but not new. I noticed the touch panel didn't have the "IN" logo as I had seen on other pieces. Not sure if it is missing as some have it some don't. Problem with it was it didn't even work or light up. Unfortunately I bought a couple packs of C batteries hoping I would need them.
The seller had multiple quantities and opted to give me a refund rather than swap it out. So I got to thinking about powering it over usb instead of 4 "C" batteries. I have several versions of DI for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. I had one base that simply didn't work from a 3.0 starter pack. I broke it apart and disconnected the usb cable from the base, unscrewed the frost beast base, and and soldered the red wire from the usb cable to the connector from the battery port and the ground wire to the connector on the battery port. All was very straight forward the usb cable provides the correct amount of voltage and it works great. Problem now is I want to do it again but with a new base and swapping two round ports and adding or converting a round disc for the hexagon discs.
I thought about making a tutorial but its pretty straight forward. I used the usb cable from the infinity base because it has the IN logo toward the end and has good length for placing the display piece near the area where I have my infinity characters and disc books. It also has a rubber stopper that holds the cable in place that if the hole cut in the frost giants base is the right size can look original and prevents the cable from sliding out if tugged too hard.
One thing I am not sure about is the light turns off automatically after a few minutes, is this correct?
