JV confirms on twitter: No Crystal Variants for 2.0

Right. I think the chase venom was only in regards to the free giveaways at E3. Don't think that'll be reflected at retail.

This is exactly why I pre order things.
I might pay more money than usual in the end, but I don't have to endure the chase.
I know it is fun for some people, but for me it is way too much pressure.
I really hope they won't go the Skylanders road and get greedy and make exclusives that are hard to find or cost more.

I'm happy to hear they are doing away with the crystal variants. The bonuses just weren't worth the additional price point of a whole new figure (especially considering they didn't come with a unique character adventure). Plus, this saves the completionist in me the trouble (and $$$) of getting a lot of extra figures.

That said, I just picked up the last few crystal figures we needed to complete our entire collection during TRU's 2 for $25 sale this week. Except for Crystal Mickey, which I'm guessing won't ever see the light of day now.

That's good to hear about Venom being released as normal, he's a character I'm dying to play as but I can't afford to get everything at launch, so good to know he won't be difficult to get after all.

Timed-exclusives I have no problem with. If only one store gets to sell a certain figure for a month, and then it gets released everywhere, that's fine. If I can get to the specific store, I'll get the figure there. If not, I'll wait the extra month. But complete exclusives, where they never get sold elsewhere, can be trickier, and if they introduce limited runs into that, I'll be grinding my teeth. Limited edition Disney collectibles, like vinylmation and dolls, always end up on eBay for ridiculous amounts, and while I don't play Skylanders I'm sure the same can be said for their hard-to-find figures. Combine the two audiences and the scalpers will have a field day.

Though I'm sure a fan tweeted JV and asked if 2.0 will have more or less figures than 1.0, and he said relatively the same.
So I'm not sure if it means getting anymore figures.

There were officially 38 characters (including variants) for 1.0 so I think around 40 for 2.0 is possible. With 24 Confirmed figures so far and with Donald , Hiro and Aladdin rumored, we still have quite a few left to be revealed. I would also expect a high percentage of those left to be Disney figures.
