2.0 Story Telling Features

Postby FROZOFAN » Thu Jul 31, 2014 11:08 pm

Can anyone lead me to a link or official post describing what the story telling features will be in the Toy Box and how they will work? I've seen some posts talking about power discs that will add features but how will that work?

Unfortunately, we can't talk about it much right now. Expect to know more about these features, though, during the Toy Box Summit, which is only a couple of weeks away, so hang in there!

I don't see how power discs would do anything.

In one of the SDCC videos, there was part where the text bubbles/boxes were discussed. It was said that they could be tied to different creativi-toys. So you could have an area trigger that pops up a text message to the player when entered, or a message displayed when a certain action is completed. We're also supposed to be able to tie the text to NPCs as well. I believe that is where the "story telling" will come from.

Do you have a link to the SDCC video? I'd love to see it, so I can discuss the features shown there :)

@Romulus:

Thanks a lot for the link, it lets me talk a bit more freely about the Story Telling Features in the Toy Box.

As said in the video, there are toys that allow you to input custom text like "Help us from these bandits!" that you can place on different parts of the screen. The moderation he mentions in the video means that you have to be online in order to use the toy, since after inputting the phrase there's an online check for filtering "bad" words (you know, f-bombs, etc.).
Using that toy, you can have an NPC talk to you, or you can display the current objective on the screen. It will make the communication of player goals in the Toy Box much easier :)

You'll see some other neat uses of it during the Toy Box Summit, but that's the gist of it. :)

Thank you for all your help! Can you disclose whether or not there will be a word or character limit for these inputs?

That's good news. Look forward to 2. Toy Boxes. The Toy Box mission goals in 1.0 were very hazy !!

@FROZOFAN:

There's a word limit for each line of text inputted, but you can chain several lines of text together, so the total text amount can be as little or as much as you want.
