Power Disc Alchemy - A Comprehensive Guide to Series 1

I noticed a couple of references around the forum to the bonus powers gained through Power Disc alchemy, but no comprehensive summary. So I've put the following list together, describing all possible combinations that give bonus powers using the regular series 1 ability discs as well as the lenticular exclusives from EB Games/Toys R Us.

But first, some interesting facts:
- Most bonus powers are achievable via more than one combination.
- When multiple combinations can give a specific bonus power, there is usually one disc common to these combinations (for example, the Turbo Charge power requires Felix combined with either Scrooge or Jack)
- Only one of the ability discs (Emperor Zurg's Wrath) currently doesn't exhibit any alchemy. Perhaps it will when new discs come out in series 2 or 3, though.
- Testing two identical discs (the common disks only; I don't have duplicates of the exclusives) together revealed only the expected additive affect, no synergy. It's possible that one of more of the exclusive discs may have alchemy when two of the same are used together.


Turbo Charge: Chance for bonus turbo energy
Fix-It Felix's Repair Power + Scrooge McDuck's Lucky Dime
Fix-It Felix's Repair Power + Pieces of Eight (Jack Sparrow)

Overpowering Strength: Chance for bonus sparks from enemy defeats
Bolt's Super Strength + Scrooge McDuck's Lucky Dime
Bolt's Super Strength + Pieces of Eight (Jack Sparrow)

Spark Shield: Chance for sparks on damage
C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield + Scrooge McDuck's Lucky Dime
C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield + Pieces of Eight (Jack Sparrow)

C.H.R.O.M.E. Grapple Hook: Increased pick up range
User Control (Tron) + C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield
User Control (Tron) + C.H.R.O.M.E. Damage Increaser

C.H.R.O.M.E. Speed Boost: Increased Power Boost duration
Merlin's Summon + C.H.R.O.M.E. Damage Increaser
Merlin's Summon + C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield

C.H.R.O.M.E. System Control: Chance for bonus sparks
C.H.R.O.M.E. Damage Increaser + C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield

How does the C.H.R.O.M.E. Grapple Hook compare to Merlin's Summon? Do you know if the pickup area is bigger or smaller or the same?

Does anyone know for sure if having two of the same power disc at once actually does amplify the effect? I'm still trying to find out if I actually need four of each circular disk or just two for local multiplayer.

Thanks for the answer, Mycologist! Increased pickup area is the bonus I want most since I get annoyed having to run around always collecting the stray coins and sparks that fall just out of reach.

I agree - just like in the LEGO titles, having to run after all of the scattered drops gets old really quick.
