Multiplayer co-op playset help!!

This may have been addressed before I however was unable to find it. So my question is:
I have a friend that lives in another city. We both have pre-ordered our starter kits and he pre-ordered villains pack and I pre-ordered sidekicks pack. Now for our free character bonus we were thinking of getting matter and Francisco from cars because my buddy is going to buy the cars playset and if I pick Francisco for my free character I would be able to play in that playset. The question is if he host a online co-op session and invites me to his cars playset will i be able to play that playset with only having Francisco or will i need to purchase the playset as well? I know that this would work if we were local co-op but what about online?

i have been thinking this too, will i be able to play the playsets online with my nephew? maybe one of the mickeys know

Pure speculation, but I'm assuming that any figure will work in Toy Box(fact) but in order to play Co-Op, both parties must have the Play Set. You could play together in Toy Box, but not in the Play Set.

SandyClaws is correct, you would have to have the Playset as well.

For the co op to work you would need to also have the playset to go into the world which to me makes sense but if you really want to play it without buying you could see about him coming over to your house or you to his

Thanks for the info. I thought it might work but then I was like well Disney likes money so that does not make a lot of money sense for them.

Wow this is all new to me well I'm glad I thought playsets were only offline!

^ yeah it's rather nice we can do playsets online. I like the sea of being with others online going through the play sets

When I read this, I went out and pre-ordered the game. The toy box mode looks great, but being able to play online co-op in the play sets is what I really wanted. Now does that mean only 2 player online co-op or can you go up to 4 player online co-op?
